LNG Transportation and Storage Solution

Detachable Stern Vessel

One of the biggest barriers to affordable LNG storage and break-bulking is the high cost of developing infrastructure, such as LNG carriers and onshore storage. Kanfer addresses this problem with a small-scale, flexible barge-based solution that is highly cost-efficient compared to traditional, capital-intensive onshore LNG facilities.

Kanfer’s revolutionary small-scale solution uses the patented Detachable Stern Vessel© (DSV) design to create an advanced version of the commonly used Articulated Tug Barge (ATB). Kanfer’s DSV efficiently transports LNG to and from an FSU, FSRU or land-based LNG terminals via a small and maneuverable barge that brings LNG to demand centers.

Kanfer’s unique, turnkey solution can function as:

LNG Transportation andBunkering

This includes one (1) tug and one (1) barge solution, which works as an ordinary small-scale LNG carrier wherein the small DSV or tug is used to power the barge. The solution can also be fitted with ship-to-ship LNG bunkering equipment to function as a bunkering vessel.

LNG Floating StorageSolution

One (1) tug and two (2) barges where one barge will, at any given time, be used as a storage facility while the other barge is on its way from/to the LNG source, propelled by the tug. Regasification equipment can be installed to make the solution a highly competitive, small-scale FSRU.

LNG Bunkering and Distribution Solution

Liquid Methane Bunkering Vessel

Through a licensing and development agreement with CGR Arctic Marine, Kanfer offers the unique and environmentally friendly Liquid Methane Bunkering Vessel (“LMBV”) for customers in the LNG bunkering industry. The LMBV is designed to significantly improve cost efficiencies and lower emissions from seaborne LNG bunkering operations.

The LMBV is a first for the industry with a plug-in hybrid power system comprised of a modular battery system combined with pure gas generators. It is a highly efficient solution that features a single tank and less cargo containment equipment. This combination improves hull utilization, reduces weight, and maximizes insulation surface area. State-of-the-art technologies also deliver a market leading boil-off rate.

Another feature of the LMBV is the onboard multi-purpose cargo handling plant on board, the Cryogenic Gas Recovery (CGR) System, which combines cooling, reliquefaction and gas recovery operations, allowing safe and pollution-free cargo handling during loading, discharge, and gas freeing operations.
